Efficacy of Black Tea to Reduce Hypertension and Heart Disease Risk

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHypertension is a lifestyle disease that affects nearly thirty percent of the world’s population. This disease is characterized by constant high blood flow in the arteries which puts pressure on them and eventually causes a reduction in elasticity. Over time this can derail the proper transport of oxygen and blood to the heart, resulting in heart failure heart disease.

Cardiovascular disease is known as one of the most worrying health conditions because it causes a high mortality rate.

A healthy diet and regular exercise is one solution to prevent heart disease. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. There is one lifestyle change that is small but is said to have an effect on this condition.

Studies have shown that consuming three cups black tea in a day can help lower blood pressure significantly. Because it helps control hypertension, this tea is also effective in controlling heart disease.

Black tea also contains flavonoids, which help reduce the risk of heart disease because it helps blood circulation in the arteries. Flavonoids also reduce inflammation, which is a major cause of poor heart health.

Although consuming three to four cups of black tea has beneficial effects on the heart and hypertension, consuming it in excess is also not recommended. Too much consumption of black tea can cause side effects like insomnia due to the caffeine present in it. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and excessive consumption can cause anxiety, headaches and dizziness.
