Effect of four levels of Nitrogen Fertilization on the yield of salvia hispanica l. in Virú, La Libertad

Summary

The cultivation of chia (Salvia hispanica L) is considered one of the crops with the greatest potential for expansion due to characteristics such as nutritional quality and agronomic advantages. As it is a crop in rediscovery, the information on agronomic management is still not very well defined, mainly with respect to nitrogen fertilization that can result in large increases in production. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of four nitrogen levels on the performance of Salvia hispanica L. in Virú, La Libertad. The experiment was carried out in the demonstration plot of the Chavimochic – Virú Special Project, with the experimental design of complete random blocks with four treatments (0, 60, 90 and 120 kg. Ha-1 of nitrogen) and four repetitions, evaluating morphological characteristics and performance. The results showed that all the evaluated characteristics had a significant difference between the nitrogen doses at 5% probability. The grain yield in the treatments of 90 and 120 kg.ha-1 of N (T2 and T3) were those that reached the highest average, with 1009.17kg.ha-1 and 1012.17 kg.ha-1 respectively, with no significant difference between these. As expected, the lowest yield reached was by T0 of 0 kg.ha-1 of N whose yield was 288.1 kg.ha-1. It is concluded that there is a significant difference between the treatments in response to the application of different levels of nitrogen in all the characteristics evaluated and that there is a tendency that if we increase the dose of nitrogen, the yield increases until reaching a limit in which higher doses do not have significant effect. The information generated by this work vii can serve as a basis for the use of nitrogen fertilization in chia, seeking to increase the production of this crop.
