Ednaldo Rodrigues goes to the STJ to remain in the presidency of the CBF | soccer

The interim president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, appealed to the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) to try to remain in office until new elections are held in the entity.

Rodrigues asks for the suspension of a decision of the president of the STJHumberto Martins, who had determined to the judge of first instance in the Justice of Rio de Janeiro, the appointment of the oldest director, Dino Gentile, to command the CBF on an interim basis.

Ednaldo Rodrigues’ lawyers cite that the CBF already signed a TAC (Conduct Adjustment Term) with the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, and that this agreement has already been validated by the Justice of Rio de Janeiro.

The petition presented by Rodrigues is also a show of political force: attached to his request are letters signed by five of the seven vice-presidents of the CBF and by 22 of the 27 presidents of state federations, all saying that they agreed with the signing of the TAC and with Rodrigues’ permanence in power.

In the ongoing power war at the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues is rivaled by Gustavo Feijó, one of the two vice presidents who did not sign the letter of support for Ednaldo Rodrigues. The other vice is Castellar Guimarães, also an ally of Feijó.

– I am against the signing of the TAC made with the Public Ministry, which takes away one year from my mandate – declared Gustavo Feijó.

The five vices that are with Ednaldo Rodrigues are Fernando Sarney, Francisco Noveletto, Antonio Aquino Lopes, Antonio Carlos Nunes and Marcus Vicente.

The only state federations that did not endorse support for the current interim president are: Alagoas, Minas Gerais, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio de Janeiro. All the others signed.

By the TAC signed with the MP, CBF commits to hold a General Assembly next Monday to define new electoral rules – and guarantee the inclusion of first and second division clubs in the next elections.

The absence of the clubs in the General Assembly that defined the electoral rules of the CBF was the reason why the Public Ministry filed a lawsuit against the CBF in 2017. After several steps, the case reached the STJ.

The action brought by Ednaldo Rodrigues this Friday is a response to a petition presented by Dino Gentile the day before, in which he also asks to be sworn in as president of the CBF.

Gentile alleges that Humberto Martins’ initial decision, on February 24, was not carried out. And that the TAC signed between CBF and MP-RJ is not valid, because it was signed by Ednaldo Rodrigues on February 28, when he should have – according to this argument – be out of office.

Dino Gentile, 65, is the director of assets, and was appointed for the position in the management of Marco Polo Del Nero, with whom he has been a friend for many years – the two worked together at the São Paulo Football Federation.

In the petition presented this Friday to the STJ, the 22 presidents of state federations who allied with Ednaldo also claim that Dino Gentile and the entity’s secretary general, Eduardo Zebini, participated “in an attempt at internal interference by third parties” in the CBF. .

This week, FIFA formally contacted the CBF to ask for information about the STJ’s decision. In the document, FIFA recalled that it usually punishes national football federations that suffer external interference in their administrations.
