Edition Thionville – Hayange | Val de Fensch: no vice-presidency for Hayange

All elected in the first round of the municipal elections on March 15, the representatives of the ten communes of Val de Fensch met on Thursday evening for the election of the president and vice-presidents of the conurbation.

After the election of Michel Liebgott – the only candidate – for the presidency of the community with a comfortable majority (36 votes out of 51 voters, 15 blank ballots), the election of the vice-presidents could only have been a formality, but secret ballot voting still has a few surprises in store.

Political balance

In the preamble, Michel Liebgott recalled his desire to build “a majority of projects. But the distribution of the vice-presidencies wishing to reflect this majority, which must in fact combine all the sensitivities of the left, right and ecologist of the Valley, remains obviously complicated.

The election of the twelve vice-presidents was thus marked by a few suspensions of sittings to allow the political groups to count themselves and to tune their violins. In the end, with the notable exception of Hayange, each municipality obtains at least one post of vice-president, including two for the right-wing majority in Florange even if the last delegation was disputed between the opposition councilor Michèle Bey (PS ) and Alexandre Holzenburger who finally won.

The RN question

The thorny question of the place left to the elected representatives of the National Rally in the community executive had also animated the political debate in recent weeks.

Before the votes Thursday evening, Michel Liegott had confirmed his desire to open the community office to the majority of all the municipalities, RN included, thus leaving Fabien Engelmann to hope, if not a vice-presidency, at least one post assessor. A position also defended by the mayor of Florange, Rémy Dick but strongly contested by Rebecca Adam. The municipal opponent from HAYANG highlighted the incompatibility between its democratic and republican values, and “the exception of HA […] The only RN in the Grand Est. His alternative candidacy for a vice-presidency, however, did not convince. No more than a possible opening to the RN.

Candidate for the post of 7e vice-president then first assessor Fabien Engelmann, did not obtain more than 15 votes. “While Hayange with 16,000 inhabitants is the first commune in the Valley, this result is heartbreaking and even hypocritical,” said the elected RN.
