Edition Thionville – Hayange | Local Mission maintains contact with young people

The local Mission of North Moselle did not cut the thread. It supports around 2,000 young people, aged 16 to 25, in professional and social integration. The Covid-19 health crisis does not erase their difficulties, does not slow down precariousness.

The local Mission continues to support and invest in them. “These people have to stay dynamic,” says assistant director Marie-Josée Kadzielski. The partners – employment center, educators, homes, training organizations, companies – must also stay in the loop.

A crisis unit

The Hayange office is closed but there is a permanent presence at the headquarters, rue du Moulin in Thionville from Monday to Friday. “A member of management and a few volunteer advisers are on hand to answer questions from young people and provide for basic needs. The rest of the team is telecommuting. Follow-up interviews are done by phone.

“We have to keep in touch,” insists the assistant to the director. New files are still addressed to them. “It can be people who no longer have a job and who do not want to waste time when activity resumes,” illustrates Marie-Josée Kadzielski.

Distance learning

If there is no internship or group workshops, the local Mission directs its audience to distance training. “It can be in the digital field, languages or upgrading. Always in touch with the advisor. Confinement should not prevent building a case, starting work, thinking about the future.

Youth Guarantee Continued

This contractual arrangement support for employment is maintained. 210 young people registered with the local Mission benefit from it. The urgency was to be able to follow them up and pay their monthly remuneration of € 494. Even if their job was brutally stopped, in catering or the school environment for example. The advisers keep two telephone interviews per week, monitor the social situation, guide the research, and propose offers to avoid leaving the system. The youth guarantee requires a certain level of commitment.

And after ?

“The confinement has caused a complete upheaval,” says Marie-Josée Kadzielski. Some young people are stuck in fear of the virus, others have been caught up in a casual manner. “How are we going to resume?” “Asks the deputy director. What impact on the motivation of registrants? The local Mission, on the front line, intends to limit the damage.
