Eclipse Foundation conducts annual IoT development survey

For the sixth time, the Eclipse Foundation conducts its annual developer survey on the Internet of Things. The 2020 IoT Developer Survey (Internet of Things) runs until June 26. For the first time he includes the topic of edge computing. Participation in the survey is open to all developers who are interested in IoT topics. The results should influence the further work of the Eclipse IoT Working Group and the Eclipse Edge Native Working Group.

The open source portfolio around IoT under the umbrella of the Eclipse Foundation is growing steadily. Are currently found 37 projects on the website. They span a wide range of frameworks, various tools and gateways and the implementation of protocols such as MQTT.

It is not surprising that the Foundation is now taking up questions about edge computing when you look at the latest developments in the area. In 2019, projects such as ioFoG were added to the Eclipse portfolio. In December, the Edge Native Working Group was created, which is primarily concerned with the topic.

Edge computing brings the processing of the data where it is created. Among other things, data generated by sensors can be locally (pre) processed. So the system can react immediately if it finds indications of malfunctions. The data can also be filtered so that it can be analyzed more precisely so that only the relevant content migrates to the cloud or data center via the possibly weak internet connection.

Further details on the 2020 IoT Developer Survey can be found the Eclipse blog remove. The Survey Monkey runs until June 26th and does not require registration. Participation should take less than ten minutes.
