East Moselle. Fuel prices: sharp drop in Germany

Gasoline 30 cents cheaper in Germany

In Forbach and Stiring-Wendel, service station totems have been showing prices that have been more or less stabilized for a few weeks. This Wednesday morning, they varied between €2.00 (Total) and €2.03 (Auchan Brême d’or) for unleaded 95 (or E10), and €1.87 (Auchan Brême d’or) at €1.98 (Total) for diesel. On the side of Saarbrücken, the report is without appeal. Gasoline prices are much more advantageous: €1.72 at Total and Agip, or almost 30 cents less per liter compared to France! As regards diesel, the drop is less impressive but remains palpable: €1.84/litre on average.

“Customers are coming back”

As a result, the Saar stations are once again seeing an influx of French motorists. “In April and May, it was very difficult for us. We have lost a lot of customers, French and German, for whom it was more advantageous to get gas in France,” confides Stéphanie Paries-Demmer. On the first day of the fall in prices, the manager of the Agip station, located at the entrance to Saarbrücken, already noted an increase in attendance. “Customers come back. »

“It saves a lot of money”

At the pumps, French customers are on the same line: they go where it is cheapest, “even if it means going a few more kilometers”. “It’s true that we had lost the habit of coming here over the past two months, it was no longer worth it. Today, this is no longer the case”, confides a young motorist from Forbach. Others, like Alain and Marie-Christine, were unaware of the measure. So for them, it was a bit of a good surprise of the day. “We are not from here, we come from Nancy, confides the couple. We filled up our gas tank there a few days ago, at €2.02/litre and we’ve just seen that it was €1.72 here… Thirty cents difference, that’s still a nice saving . It’s a shame that our tank isn’t empty, it’s three quarters full but we’re still going to enjoy it! »
