Earth Hour Environmental Campaign Held Around the World Next Week

“Earth Hour” invites everyone to get involved in shaping the future of the planet, informs Daina Šteinberga, Communication Manager of the World Wide Fund for Nature (PDF).

In this difficult time, when it is more important than ever to be united in both our thoughts and actions, with the slogan “Let’s build our future!” PDF invites you to join the largest environmental campaign in the world “Earth Hour”, which will take place this year on Saturday, March 26, at 8:30 p.m. By turning off the lights for one hour, everyone can symbolically show their solidarity with millions of people around the world and commit to building the future of the planet together.

At a time when society is trying to embrace the devastating events in Ukraine and the concept of “solidarity” has taken on an unprecedented meaning, this year’s Earth Hour aims to signal a new era in which respect and mutual harmony between people and humanity and the planet come first. instead, explains Steinberg.

PDF director Jānis Rozītis emphasizes that people must not remain indifferent to what is happening. Everyone needs to come together to stand up for a world that is good for people and nature. Everyone needs to appreciate the opportunities that can be done for nature, so that the qualities they provide can be experienced by themselves and by future generations. Everyone needs to get involved – politicians, entrepreneurs, teachers, local authorities, landowners and others, because everyone has their own opportunities and role in shaping the future.

This year’s “Earth Hour” PDF wants to emphasize that by reducing electricity consumption for at least one hour, everyone can help both people and the planet, says Rozitis.

During the PDF campaign, organizes the competition “Climate Ambassador”, organizes educational events in schools and companies, invites state institutions, municipalities and companies to participate in the “Earth Hour”, supporting the campaign informatively, raising environmental issues among employees, partners, customers and symbolically reducing lighting. Citizens and opinion leaders on social media are invited to promote the message of the global biodiversity crisis and what each individual can do to alleviate it.

Earth Hour was announced in Sydney in 2007 and has today become the world’s largest environmental campaign, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organizations in more than 190 countries and territories to take significant environmental action.
