Early Week, European Stocks Closed Lower

London, Beritasatu.comEuropean Exchange closed lower in trading Monday (17/5/2021). Investors are worried about rising inflation in the US and the spread of Covid-19 cases and a new variant of the virus in India.

European Stoxx600 fell 0.05%, German DAX fell 0.13%, UK FTSE fell 0.15%, French CAC fell 0.28%, Italian FTSE MIB increased 0.39%.

In Asia, capital markets are moving mixed. Market participants monitor China’s economic data and the Covid-19 case in Taiwan. On Wall Street, technology stocks fell, suppressing market movements.

April inflation in the US rose 4.2% compared to last year, the highest since 2008. The increase in inflation has sparked fears that the Federal Reserve will tighten monetary policy. Market participants will monitor the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting on Wednesday (19/5/2021).

Britain is loosening up lockdown. The bar and restaurant will reopen for on-site dining. Museums and cinemas have also been allowed to reopen. British PM Boris Johnson warned that the spread of the Indian variant of Covid-19 could threaten easing lockdown.
