In the vastness of the Internet (4Chan via Eurogamer) is a playable, early version of Dead Island 2 surfaced and meanwhile more and more videos from this version appear among other things on YouTube. The version dates from 2015 and was developed by Yager Productions GmbH before the project was handed over to another studio in mid-2015. At that time it was said that the creative visions of Yager (developer) and Deep Silver (publisher) were no longer agreed had. Afterwards Sumo Digital took over the project. Since August 2019, however, the in-house Dambuster Studio (Homefront: The Revolution) has been working on Dead Island 2.
In the early version, you could walk through sunny Los Angeles and mess with zombies and other opponents, including with assault rifles, sledgehammers or self-assembled weapons. Placeholders and many more bugs (opponent behavior, clipping / collisions) can be seen, but you get an impression of how gameplay, character progress, crafting and weapon arsenal should work. The cooperative multiplayer mode is not playable in the alpha version. We played a similar version at gamescom 2014 (for preview), who had also played in Los Angeles.
