Dutch Safety Board investigates security Peter R. de Vries | Inland

Lawyers for the key witness in the Marengo case and family members of De Vries doubted the impartiality of former National Coordinator for Counterterrorism Joustra. After discussions with them, those involved and experts, Grapperhaus has decided to leave the investigation to the OVV, although the minister himself says that he does not doubt Joustra’s impartiality.

The investigation will be broadened because the security of the brother of crown witness Nabil B. and his then lawyer Derk Wiersum will also be examined. According to the Ministry of Justice and Security, Minister Grapperhaus has decided to do this ‘after having held several talks with the family of Peter R. De Vries, those involved and experts’.

“It was previously reported to the House of Representatives that a fact-finding investigation would be conducted into the security situation of Peter R. de Vries. Mr Joustra was willing to lead this investigation. In recent weeks, the scope of the investigation, as well as the composition of the commission of inquiry, have been the subject of debate. Grapperhaus has never had any doubts about the suitability and independence of Mr. Joustra and his committee members. All things considered, Grapperhaus has decided to ask the OVV to conduct the investigation,” said a statement from the ministry.
