Dutch party Volt must include suspended politician back in faction | Abroad

Gündoğan was expelled from the Volt faction on Saturday, February 28, because she was guilty of transgressive behavior, according to the party. Volt accused Gündoğan of “pawing, unwelcome sexual advances, intimidation and abuse of position”. The party launched an investigation, but Gündoğan refused to cooperate because she did not trust the investigative agency and for a long time did not know exactly what she was being accused of.

Now the judge has ruled in her favor and ruled that the party “has taken the wrong course too expeditiously throughout the affair”. The party must reverse all measures against the politician. “A suspension of Gündoğan without a proper explanation why, without explaining the nature of the complaints and without any form of adversarial hearing, is unacceptable.” In addition, Volt must pay her a preliminary indemnity of 5,000 euros.

Party chairman Laurens Dassen has responded to the ruling and admitted that the judge has “tapped the party on the fingers”. He indicated that he had spoken with Gündoğan – who had previously reacted “relieved” to the judge’s ruling – and that he had apologized. Both are prepared to sit down at the table under the guidance of a mediator.
