Dušek: He will decide this week

Former Minister of Health and epidemiologist Roman Prymula spoke about the fall of cases below one thousand on Sunday. He said on Prima television that, while maintaining current anti-epidemic measures, the Czechia would get under a thousand cases a day on about 14 December.

“I think it will happen sooner, but now it is not essential to talk about such assumptions, because the decisive factor will be the development on the working days of this week after the national holiday. The holiday, similarly to October 28, will contribute to a reduction in the mobility of social contacts and the decline in the number of newly diagnosed people will be faster, ”Dušek told Radiožurnál.

On Sunday, there were 1,887 more cases in the Czech Republic, at least since 5 October. Compared to last Sunday, the increase was halved, compared to Saturday the number of cases decreased by 2312. On the weekend, however, less testing is usually performed.

According to the head of health statistics, all age groups are now affected by coronavirus. However, according to him, the data from the weekend show that the situation among seniors could start to improve. “We could go back to a period when, for example, in September we had the number of diagnosed seniors up to ten percent,” said Dušek. In the first part of November, people over the age of 65, who are the most vulnerable age group for coronavirus, accounted for 18.6 percent. Infections in the elderly indicate a future need for hospitalizations.

According to Dušek, data from testing in nursing homes and social facilities show 18 percent positive seizures. Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES) states that this testing proved the infection in about a fifth of clients. Testing in nursing homes began last week.
