Düren: One year forced break – showman has to sell crane – Cologne

Cologne / Düren – His Ferris wheel has long since become a ghost train for him. For showman Robert Gormanns (39), the forced Corona break has now lasted over a year. Easter fair – not in sight. The effects are dramatic.

“We now have to slowly sell resources,” says the family man sadly. “On offer is our truck-mounted crane, which we need to set up the Ferris wheel and which we purchased four years ago.”

Gormanns does the math: The crane cost around 170,000 euros and is loan-financed. 110,000 euros are open. In the event of a sale, almost 60,000 euros are expected to remain, which are also taxable. The rest is enough for the next few months.

Loans instead of hype

As a replacement, the smart showman got his oldie crane back on the road. It also creates the structure, but more slowly. And (construction) time at the fair is money.

What’s next? “The loans for the new Ferris wheel of two million euros as well as for vehicles and the new hall are still running,” explains Gormanns. His bank had granted him a respite in repayment and treated him very generously.

The bridging aid from the state was good, but it was only a drop in the huge sea of credit. And the future still looks dark: “Again there is no Easter fair in Cologne. Other fairs are also canceled or not even planned. “

Building up stationary, like his colleague last year with the Ferris wheel at the Chocolate Museum, is not worthwhile for the Gormanns. “At 35 meters we are much too small for that. This only works with huge stores that are at least twice as big. That has to work well. “

When will the wheel turn again? Gormanns: “Maybe in autumn or at least Christmas. We try to survive until then. “
