Duncan Laurence has with his number Arcade achieved a special milestone on Spotify. The winning Eurovision song of 2019 has been listened to a billion times on Spotify.

With this, the number officially joins the so-called Billions Club of the streaming service. Laurence is the third Dutch artist who has succeeded. DJs Tiësto (with the song The Business) in Martin Garrix (Scared to be Lonelywith Dua Lipa) preceded him.

“I really had to pinch myself to see if I haven’t been dreaming in recent years. But it’s really true,” Laurence writes on Instagram. “I’m thankful that this song, which I wrote straight from the heart, has secured a place in the Billions Club.”

Second Life

It is the first time that a Eurovision song breaks the limit of one billion Spotify streams. Initially, the song was mainly a European hit in 2019, but in 2021 Arcade got a second life thanks to the TikTok app.

There, users can edit videos with a song underneath, many users did that with Laurence’s song. As a result, became Arcade a big hit not only in Europe but also in North and South America and Asia.
