Duncan Laurence denies: “No, Songfestival not missed due to fear of failure” Music

MusicDuncan Laurence (27) has been quite ill due to corona, but is slowly getting better. The Dutch winner of the Song Contest in 2019 told this on Monday in the morning show of NPO Radio 2. It was the first time that the singer came out again since the Eurovision Song Contest last week.

“I’m back on my feet now, we’re going back into the studio today to see what I can do,” said the singer. His voice was still a little hoarse. “I was very sick. We know it can be a bad disease, but we’ve been through worse.”

The winner of the Eurovision song contest in 2019 was sitting at home in the seat on the final evening, he said: “I received a lot of messages, but that is of course not the same as when you are there. You live for it for two years, and not just you, but the whole country. So I did curse. But I was happy with the recording and what my team made of it.”

Duncan also addressed the rumors that he would not have corona, but was absent on the final night due to fear of failure. “If I had had a fear of failure, I would not have gone to rehearsal,” he said emphatically. “If I had suffered from performance anxiety, I would have been open about it. Just look at my documentary: I think it’s very important to talk about mental health. I wouldn’t hold back, but people often tell lies.”
