The world’s largest carmaker had planned to produce nearly 900,000 cars in September, but the plan has now been reduced to 500,000 units, writes Nikkei.

The newspaper reports that from the beginning of next month, Toyota will suspend production in several Japanese factories, as well as reduce production in North America, China and Europe.

The newspaper points out that the spread of the Covid-19 delta variant in Southeast Asia has also negatively affected Toyota’s ability to obtain the necessary parts.

The company does not comment on this at this time.

The semiconductor deficit was caused by a significant increase in demand for consumer electronics during the coronavirus pandemic, making it difficult for semiconductor manufacturers to produce the required volume.
