The Secretary of Transportation and Public Works, Carlos M. Contreras Aponte, reported today an initiative within the Directorate of Driver Services (DISCO) aimed at serving citizens who need to carry out an emergency transaction during the closure of the Service Centers at Driver (CESCO).
Under the name of Trámite Especial DISCO, The initiative will allow trained CESCO personnel to receive special or emergency requests from citizens, and to channel procedures. “agilely, but above all safely,” said the DTOP in a press release.
As Contreras Aponte explained, “during this emergency generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Driver Service Centers (CESCO) have remained closed, taking into account that they are places where many people come regularly and can become sources of propagation of the virus”.
“We have been working on a reopening plan that includes protection infrastructure and social distancing, the creation of extremely strict protocols to protect not only visitors, but also our employees, and a system that is more agile than ever before to attend to citizenship, “said Contreras.
“We know that there are citizens who have to leave Puerto Rico for emergency reasons, to receive medical services, or to complete procedures related to the export of vehicles, among others, that need their licenses and identifications to be current. For these particular cases, we have created the Special DISCO Procedure, ”he added.
Through the Special Procedure DISCO will attend special or emergency cases that require the renewal or duplication of identifications, licenses and removable signs, for the following procedures:
– Travel outside of Puerto Rico for emergency, military, family care or health situation reasons (such as medical treatment or transplant).
– Particular work situations.
– Identification of bedridden for processes related to obtaining medications, housing or some essential government service.
– Duplicate of tablets.
– Duplicate of labels.
– Vehicle records at the dock.
– Management to export vehicles.
Citizens who require the services of Trámite Especial DISCO should write an email to [email protected] and must contain as subject or “subject” the town of residence of the citizen.
In the body of the message, you must explain the requested transaction, such as renewing your emergency travel license. It is important to submit the evidence that certifies the specific emergency or urgency situation.
Each request will be attended by the authorized personnel of the CESCO of its jurisdiction, who will channel the request and help the citizen to complete the process.
Finally, Contreras Aponte recalled that the validity of the following licenses and permits was extended until August 31, with expiration dates of March, April, May, June, July and August 2020:
– Driving licenses, in all its categories.
– Manager and / or agency licenses, including the certifications of their authorized agents.
– Licenses or permits to operate driver schools.
– Official identifications issued by the DTOP.
– Parking permits for people with disabilities.
– Permits for tinting on vehicle glass.
The validity of the expired labels in March, April, May and June remains until June 30.
