DSV hires a complete train from Yiwu to Madrid to import medical supplies – El Mercantil

The logistics operator DSV is one of the main players in the sector in the import of medical equipment for Spanish public administrations. In a period of between 18 and 20 days, a complete train hired by this company will arrive in Madrid to import around 30 million masks and more than 400,000 EPIs. The convoy left on June 5 from Yiwu (China) for the Spanish capital with 257 tons of goods, according to the Chinese Xinhua news agency.

This operation is part of the latest agreement signed in early May between the logistics multinational and the National Institute of Health Management (Ingesa), under the Ministry of Health. Under this contract of more than 6.5 million euros and an execution period of two months, DSV coordinates the logistics and air, rail and road transport of hospital materials acquired by Ingesa in China.

YXE (Timex Industrial Investment) trains between Yiwu and Madrid, as well as other rail routes between China and Spain, have gained appeal in the course of the health emergency as an alternative to the ship and the plane. Now that the flow of medical equipment and the urgency to dispose of it is gradually normalizing, the railway allows transit times less than the maritime mode and its price is more attractive than air. According to data provided by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the China-Europe rail route had transported 16,672 TEU on 200 trains during the first five months of 2020. This volume represents an increase of 72% compared to the same period of the previous year.

LOGISTICS CONTRACT FOR SANITARY EQUIPMENT IN CATALUNYA
The Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (Semsa), dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, also awarded DSV a contract for the logistical operations of medical equipment for the treatment of critically ill patients with coronavirus. The contract of more than half a million euros was awarded at the end of May and establishes the contracting of logistics services between March 28 and July 5, according to information published by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
