Drug criminal Cetin G. fled from the Netherlands arrested in Turkey | NOW

Dutch drug criminal Cetin G. was arrested on Tuesday in Turkey. He fled the Netherlands in 2016 pending judgment in a lawsuit against him. His lawyer Cem Polat confirms the arrest following reports in Turkish media.

The man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for cocaine trafficking in December 2016. G. was allowed to wait for this statement in freedom, but cut his ankle strap and managed to escape.

The arrest of G. coincides with a large-scale action in Turkey and other countries in which more than sixty people were allegedly arrested, including in the Netherlands.

According to Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, this is the most important operation in Turkey’s history when it comes to combating drug trafficking.

Man arrested in the Netherlands in 2012

G. was arrested in Rotterdam in 2012 on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. He turned out to be wanted by Turkey and Brazil at the time for the same offense.

Four years later, he was found guilty of leading a criminal organization that smuggled drugs from Latin America to Europe.

Among other things, he was responsible for a drug transport of 8,000 kilos of cocaine from Ecuador. That cargo was intercepted in the port of Antwerp in October 2012.
