Driving a Tesla Model S over 1,600 km without stopping

An American YouTuber managed to drive his Tesla over 1,600 km without stopping.

A YouTuber engineer equipped a Tesla Model S with a diesel engine in addition to the already existing electric motor to increase its range and set off on a journey of over 4,000 km. The entire adventure was documented in a video posted on the Warped Perception YouTube channel.

“I am taking on a challenge that many electric car enthusiasts might consider sacrilegious. We adapted a turbo diesel engine on a Tesla Model S in a hybrid configuration”says the vlogger.

The Tesla Model S is a car with considerable autonomy. This reaches 630 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. However, these figures are difficult to achieve in reality, and in addition, refueling takes much longer than in a normal car with a combustion engine.

A Tesla with more range than any electric vehicle on the road

This American YouTuber therefore decided to equip his Tesla Model S with a small diesel engine, thanks to which he was able to make a journey of over 4,000 km with very few stops. To meet this challenge, he mounted a small diesel engine in the trunk. With a power of 19 kW (about 25 HP), it was designed as a range extender that increases its battery autonomy. That’s because it basically partially recharges the battery while driving. In this way he managed to travel over 4,000 km with very few stops.

Of course, this also created problems. First of all, the noise made by this engine placed in the place of the trunk, a rather annoying noise. Then another problem was the engine cooling which was quite complicated and sometimes prevented the diesel engine from running. Problems aside, with this method, the YouTuber managed to cover over 1,600 km without stopping.
