Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In a report, HP purchases in China recorded a drastic decline. As a result, global HP sales reached their worst point in the last decade.
The Counterpoint report explains that this year’s global smartphone shipments are still the worst in a decade. This can be seen in the Chinese and North American markets.
Counterpoint explained that China’s economy is still faltering and has not met expectations of a quick recovery this year. In line with this, consumers are still cautious when shopping.

Purchases of HP in China itself are reported to have fallen to 270 million units per year. Even though the average sales can reach 450 million per year.
“This has contributed to being the main reason behind the decline in global smartphone sales,” Karn Chauhan, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research told CNBC International.
Similar to what happened in China, North American sales also did not show positive results. Counterpoint reports the region has experienced double-digit declines in the full year.
“Despite the strength in the job market and falling inflation, consumers are hesitant to upgrade their devices, pushing replacement rates for the US and globally to record highs,” the research firm said.
In terms of vendors, only Apple is the biggest player in terms of shipping. The reason is because sales in the high-end class produced by the iPhone are still stable.
The iPhone 15, Apple’s newest smartphone, is also expected to further strengthen the company’s position until the end of 2023. The cellphone is rumored to be released in September.
Even though the market has not experienced a significant recovery, it is reported that the premium cellphone market for more expensive prices is still quite resilient. However, smartphone shipments as a whole have decreased.
