Bethlehem Together – A draft law regarding including images of the harmful effects of smoking on cigarette packs sold in Israel will be submitted to the Economy Committee this week in preparation for its first reading in the Knesset.

The draft law aims to help people quit smoking and stop buying cigarettes.

In a survey conducted by the Cancer Society, it was found that 74.2% of participating smokers said that graphic warnings with photographs would actually deter them.

Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the world, according to the World Health Organization. According to Ministry of Health data, 8,000 people die every year in Israel due to the effects of smoking. Smoking shortens a smoker’s life expectancy by 11 years on average. There is no safe level of smoking, and any exposure is harmful to health.
