Draft for second Berlin supplementary budget: Coalition increases new debt to 7.1 billion euros – Berlin

The government groups SPD, Left and Greens have agreed on the draft for a second supplementary budget. With this budget, which takes into account the pandemic-related loss of income and additional expenditure, Senator of Finance Matthias Kollatz (SPD) is authorized to take out loans totaling 7.1 billion euros. This money should last until the end of 2022.

Coalition households assure that the loans should only be taken out to the extent necessary to combat the consequences of the coronavirus.

In the last financial round of the group leaders, the possible new debt of 6.6 billion euros was increased by a further 500 million euros. This is said to be primarily intended to cushion the consequences of the second lockdown.

However, additional expenses are also financed that have nothing to do with the pandemic or only indirectly. This includes, for example, funds to keep the price of the semester ticket for students stable. The supplementary budget is expected to be approved on December 10th.
