Dr. Mohamed Shaker assures public about temporary crisis in Egypt’s electrical network

Al-Youm Al-Sabea TV presented a special coverage, dealing with the reassurances of Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, about the temporary crisis that the electrical network is going through as a result of the decrease in pressure in the gas networks due to the high loads on the electricity network.

Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, revealed that there is a crisis in the production of electricity due to the lack of fuel, and there is no problem in the electrical network, revealing that the network is capable of generating up to 20,000 megawatts in excess of the consumption of citizens, which exceeded 35,000 megawatts during the past two days.

Shaker added, in exclusive statements to “The Seventh Day”, that the only solution currently to get out of the crisis of interruptions resulting from load mitigation is to rationalize electricity consumption to reduce pressure on the gas network until it returns strongly, pointing out that load mitigation reached 3200 megawatts during the past few days.

Shaker stressed that rationalizing consumption is necessary and inevitable during these days to contribute to reducing the hours of interruptions resulting from lightening loads due to the lack of fuel, saying, “I turned off the air conditioning in my house to contribute to reducing pressure on the network.”

Shaker added that loads are expected to decrease during the next 3 days due to the official holiday until next Sunday, which will contribute to reducing electricity consumption and thus reducing pressure on the gas network.

Shaker said that talking about problems in the electrical network is not true at all, especially since the electricity transmission network in Egypt is currently considered one of the strongest networks in the world.

Shaker believes that the status of the national electricity network in general and the electricity transmission network in particular has become strong enough to enable him to face any challenges in securing electrical nutrition for citizens throughout the Republic, stressing that the current power outage crisis is a temporary crisis due to the lack of fuel and cannot be compared to the outage crisis that Egypt was suffering from before 2014.

Shaker continued, that a state of emergency was declared in all electricity production, transmission and distribution companies, by raising the state of emergency to the maximum level in the entire sector, especially in production stations, transformer and control stations, and the presence of technical teams throughout the Republic until the end of this temporary crisis and the return of the gas network to normal.
