NEW YORK – In honor of the 20th anniversary of this year’s World Trade Center attacks, the Buglisi Dance Theater, Dance / NYC and Lincoln Center performed a reimagined interpretive dance and spoken word performance.
The Project Table of Silence 9/11 was first launched 10 years ago at Lincoln Center’s Josie Robertson Plaza. Since then, more than 1,400 diverse professional dancers, musicians and singers have performed together in this piece, reaching more than 2 million people through the live broadcast.
“In short, it is a ritual for peace. The message is to create a mandala inside Lincoln Center with the three concentric circles that perform a ritual for peace,” said Meagan King, artist for Alvin Ailey, to our sister network NBC. New York.
The 23-year-old King has performed in Table of Silence since 2019, even appearing through last year’s Zoom piece. For the Brooklyn native, this is more than an annual dance.
Although King was only 3 years old when the World Trade Center fell, the day marks a personal moment in time.
“My aunt was in the Twin Towers, but at ground level, and she was able to get out before the debris fell. My uncle was the first to respond there, and he also developed cancer. Ten years later, he passed away on my 13th birthday.” shared King.
One of the creators of Table of Silence makes a note to her artists that they should not only reflect on the past, but also bring what New Yorkers may be feeling in the present, particularly during the pandemic and anti-hate movements.

Our goal is to provide a transformative experience that honors the strength and resilience of our collective society, “said Jacqulyn Buglisi, Artistic Director of Buglisi Dance Theater.
King echoes Buglisi in the hope that viewers of this performance will not be filled with sadness but with resistance, empathy and peace.
