Dozens of flights are canceled again at Germanwings

Also on New Year’s Day, passengers had to accept restrictions due to a flight attendant strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings. In total, more than 70 flights are to be canceled on Wednesday, as can be seen from a current overview on the Eurowings website. No flights to Austria had been canceled on the first day of the new year because of the strike.

The strike at Germanwings continued on January 1st

The UFO Cabin Union’s strike had started on Monday. According to the previous planning, Wednesday will be the last day of the strike – however, Ufo has already threatened to extend the strike.

Germanwings operates around 30 aircraft and around 1,400 employees for Eurowings, but is to be merged with Eurowings flight operations. Management gave the employees no clear perspective for the future of their flight operations, UFO Vice Daniel Flohr had criticized. He threatened to call for strikes again on Monday if necessary. Also on Tuesday, a UFO spokesman had not ruled out an extension.

The official reason for the strike are part-time regulations for cabin employees who, according to the UFO, are unfulfilled. Germanwings had offered Lufthansa part-time arrangements to the employees. Ufo refused, however, because she wants her own part-time tariff regulations. Eurowings considers the strike to be inappropriate and intends to conduct more than 1,000 in the three days of 1,200 planned flights. On Monday and Tuesday, four flights to and from Vienna were canceled.
