DoorDash is entering the market in Europe, including in two of our neighbors

The American online food ordering and delivery platform DoorDash wants to expand its food delivery business in Europe. The company’s plans accelerated with the takeover of all shares of the Finnish startup company Wolt in a deal for 8 billion dollars, reports Forbes.

The largest American food supply company planned to enter the market in Germany later this year. The news of the deal with Wolt will strengthen its presence in Berlin, Tokyo and a number of smaller markets in Eastern Europe, where Wolt has operations.

The deal will expand the company to include 4,000 Wolt employees and 23 countries in which it operates. Among them are some of our neighbors, such as Greece and Serbia.

Wolt CEO and co-founder Mickey Coosey will run DoorDash International.

The deal will make the battle for market share in food supplies in Europe even fiercer. The British company Deliveroo, the Dutch Just Eat Takeaway, the German Delivery Hero and the Spanish Glovo continue to compete with Uber Eats for food delivery services.

DoorDash hires employees to head an office in Berlin. Earlier this year, there was talk of a possible merger with Deliveroo or Just Eat Takeaway, according to an anonymous source.

Just Eat Takeaway acquired GrubHub for $ 7.3 billion in June. According to experts, the company needs to defend its position as the largest food delivery company in Europe and take a share of the fast delivery market.

DoorDash is headquartered in San Francisco, California. With a 56% market share, it is the largest food delivery company in the United States.
