DOOM Eternal – Crunch remains a reality for id Software – News

Formerly expected for the end of 2019, id Software has postponed DOOM Eternal to next March 20 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. But despite this new schedule allowing to lighten the work of developers and to refine the game over time, the crunch remains a reality for the studio.

Although DOOM Eternal is indeed playable and finished since November 2019, as Marty Stratton, executive producer of id Software, tells us at the microphone of VG24 / 7, the studio chose a few weeks before the initial release of the title, to postpone the latter by several months in order to refine, rebalance and correct the production down to the smallest detail. But this choice especially allowed the developers to get more time to do their work. Unfortunately, despite all these precautions, crunch, an intense period of work where team members work long hours to complete a project, was a reality for most of 2019 for id Software.

We really try to be very respectful of time and people’s lives. We have very dedicated people who choose to work hard in many cases. It was good because we want the game to be perfect. We want it to live up to our expectations and the expectations of consumers.

Unfortunately, in the middle, crunch is common. In 2018 and 2019, many titles had to use crunch to end projects started years ago. This was particularly the case with Red Dead Redemption II or even Mortal Kombat 11. More recently, the studio CD Projekt Red had announced that the crunch was unfortunately inevitable to complete the development of Cyberpunk 2077.

However, according to Marty Stratton, this delay allowed the studio to offer us the best game ever made by the studio. It only remains for us to wait until next March 20, to know whether or not, the title will surpass its elder. In the meantime, it is still possible to take a look at the preview of the game by clicking here.
