The electoral beating of the local administrations with the final blow of the ballots sends the already weak secretariat of Elly Schlein into crisis. The discontent among the dem is palpable, and the first signs of friendly fire emerge from the declarations of the Bonaccinians. The turn to the left, not supported by a clear and decisive line, had the effect of alienating the moderates from the Democratic Party, without winning other slices of consensus. The dem leader now appears in the corner. “Schlein imagined a different «storytelling» for his secretariat. Now he has to invent a new one because even those within the party who do not attack it directly are asking for a change of course”, reads a background story in the Corriere della sera from which emerges a quotation mark which is the photograph of the moment of the secretary of the Democratic Party.
It is still pitch dark on the new “storytelling”, the Schleinians are thinking of yet another constituent of the Democratic Party, a rather surreal hypothesis given that the party comes from a congress. Or there is thought of a reshuffle of the secretariat to give more space to the currents, a hypothesis disliked by the top management because it would be an admission of defeat. In this context, Schlein vented to her: “Give me time and in any case it is unfair that they are all over me”, is the quotation mark that can be read in the background.
While waiting for a solution that doesn’t seem around the corner, Schlein canceled the trip to Brussels and chose to move the meeting with the dem MEPs to Zoom “in order to avoid questions from journalists”. In the virtual meeting Brando Benifei was confirmed head of delegation of the Pd in the EU by acclamation. But there was also talk of the elections. According to the reconstructions, Schlein reiterated that it was an important defeat but, reports Adnkronos, “we are very determined in the path towards the Europeans”.
