Los Angeles (USA), Oct 9 (EFE) .- Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks look like a possible destination for Argentinian Facundo Campazzo, who is without a team in the NBA after leaving the Denver Nuggets and rumors of a hypothetical return to Europe.
Marc Stein, one of the journalists with the best contacts and sources within the NBA, spoke this Sunday about the Mavericks’ interest in the point guard but made it clear that nothing is closed yet.
“Dallas continues to consider signing Facu Campazzo, according to league sources, but no firm decisions have been made,” Stein said on his Twitter account, where he has 1.4 million followers.
“The Mavs entered the preseason with the intention of leaving a free spot on the roster and giving their contract players the first opportunity to grab playmaker minutes when Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie are not playing. With the start of the regular season approaching, Dallas may still choose to bring Campazzo or another veteran as a point guard.
If Campazzo had finally made it to the Mavericks, he would have reunited with Doncic, his teammate at Real Madrid.
After two years with the Nuggets, Campazzo did not sign again in the summer and is now a free agent looking for a team.
In his rookie season in the NBA (2020-2021), the point guard averaged 6.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists with the Nuggets at an average of 21.9 minutes per game.
A year later, his presence in the rotation decreased and he scored 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 18.2 minutes per game.
More surprising was the reduction in his playoff minutes.
In 2020-2021 qualifiers, the Argentinian averaged 27 minutes in 10 postseason games (in which he averaged 9.3 points, 3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game) while last season he played only 3, 4 minutes on average in four duels without practically leaving their mark in the statistics.
While waiting to see if an NBA team hires him for the new course, in recent weeks there have also been rumors about a possible return to Europe for Campazzo, who triumphed at Real Madrid before arriving in the United States.
