US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he did not “want to speak to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping” for the moment, saying he was “very disappointed” with Beijing’s attitude toward the coronavirus.
“I have a very good relationship (with him) but at the moment I don’t want to talk to him,” said Trump on Fox Business. Asked about the various retaliatory measures he could envisage, he remained elusive, while being threatening: “There are a lot of things we could do. We could end all relationships”.
“If we did it, what would happen?” He continued. “We would save $ 500 billion if we cut all ties,” he said.
For weeks, US President Donald Trump has accused the Chinese authorities of having concealed the scale of the epidemic, which appeared in late 2019 in the city of Wuhan (central China), and thus of having facilitated its spread.
Beijing denies and claims to have transmitted all the information as quickly as possible to the World Health Organization (WHO) and to other countries, including the United States.
“They could have arrested him,” said the White House tenant on Fox Business.
