Details: This time – at a trial related to the claim of the writer E. Jean Carroll. The court must determine the amount of monetary compensation Trump will receive for losses caused by his statements against the writer in 2019.

This is the second trial related to E. Jean Carroll’s allegations against Trump. The current case centers on various comments Trump made in 2019. The judge had already ruled that the statements were defamatory. Carroll’s side is demanding Trump pay $10 million in damages for reputational damage.

Trump was accused of sexually assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll in 1996. The case centers on allegations by writer E. Jean Carroll that Trump sexually assaulted her at a department store in 1996.

Trump denied the accusations and called the writer “mentally ill,” but two civil lawsuits against him continued. Trump was found liable in one of the lawsuits, and another lawsuit went to trial.

Then, in May 2023, nine jurors after a civil trial decided that the ex-president did not rape Jean Carroll, but found him liable for libeling the writer. Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in compensation.

Carroll sued Trump for battery, arguing that his conduct qualified as a sex crime because it involved rape, sexual assault or forcible touching. Although the jury did not agree that she proved rape, they did agree that Trump committed sexual assault.

This is a civil matter. However, 4 more criminal cases have been opened against former President Trump: two at the state level and two at the federal level. In total, the former president now faces 91 criminal charges, ranging from falsifying business records in New York to attempting to undermine the 2020 presidential election.

On many charges, he faces imprisonment for a term of 10 to 20 years. Donald Trump, 77, could spend the rest of his life in prison if he is found guilty and convicted of one or more charges.

Despite the legal challenges, Trump remains the favorite to win the GOP nomination in the 2024 race. It is true that at least two criminal cases slated for trial in 2024 could have an impact on both news headlines and the election campaign as a whole.
