The indictment argues that the Republican undertook a “criminal scheme” to undermine the results of the presidential elections in which Joe Biden emerged victorious and accuses him of four felonies: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official act of process, and conspiracy against rights.

For this specific case it was assigned to Washington DC District Judge Tanya Chutkan, according to court records.

Chutkan was nominated by former Democratic President Barack Obama. Was Appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in June 2014.

Harsh sentences for Capitol raiders

The magistrate is known for handing down harsh sentences for rioters accused of attacking the Capitol.

During an October 2021 sentencing hearing for a Texas man that he had pleaded guilty to a lesser charge for participating in the disturbances at the congressional building, Chutkan went beyond the ruling recommended by federal prosecutors, describing it as too lenient given the danger posed by the insurrection.

Although Prosecutors recommended three months from home to jail and probation for Matt Mazzoccothe judge expressed in a ruling that “there must be consequences” for those involved in the attempted violent overthrow of a branch of the United States government, “beyond staying at home.”

“If Mr. Mazzocco gets out with probation and a slap on the wrist, that won’t deter anyone from trying what he did again.”Chutkan noted. “In the opinion of this court, it does not indicate the seriousness, the seriousness of the crimes that he committed on January 6.”

A final sentenced Mazzocco to 45 days in prison and more than 60 hours of community servicereported ABC News.

Trump was subpoenaed to appear in court on Thursday in Washington DC for his latest accusation.

Prosecutors claim that The magnate’s alleged plan included recruiting a list of so-called “fake voters” targeting various states across the country, using the Department of Justice to carry out “false investigations of electoral crimes,” recruiting the vice president to “alter the results of the elections” and doubling down on false claims that led to the January 6 riotin an effort to subvert democracy and remain in power.

the special prosecutor Smith called the attack on the Capitol “an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.”

The goal of the attack was to “obstruct a critical function of the US government and the nation’s process of collecting, counting, and certifying presidential election results.”Smith said after the allegation was revealed.

After the new accusations were revealed, Trump described the new charges as a “lot.”

“It’s election interference,” the former president told ABC News, saying he “is doing very well in the polls” and that he believes he will defeat President Joe Biden in 2024.
