Donald Trump discontinues blog

After the riots at the US Capitol in January, Twitter blocked Donald Trump’s account, among other things. For this reason, the former US president recently tried to make himself heard with his own blog.

“From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” was a mixture of a newsletter and a Twitter feed on Donald Trump’s website. Everything was a bit like it used to be when Trump was allowed to rumble on Twitter: With the help of the generous use of exclamation marks and capital letters, political opponents were reviled and conspiracy theories about the outcome of the US election were spread. Due to its somewhat anachronistic functioning, the blog had repeatedly become the target of ridicule and malice in recent weeks. For example, users could not comment, but only acknowledge Trump’s contributions with a heart. According to a report in the Washington Post, the ex-president is said to have been annoyed that jokes were repeatedly made about “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump”. In addition, the low number of views disappointed him.

Is the Trump Twitter coming?

And so Donald Trump has been looking for a new online megaphone since he was banned from Twitter, where he was followed by more than 80 million users. Facebook had also blocked the ex-president after the storm on the Capitol. This ban was only recently confirmed by the Facebook Oversight Board, a kind of “Supreme Court” on Facebook. Again and again there is speculation that Trump could set up his own online platform, but so far it has never been concrete.
