Donald Trump asks Supreme Court to protect the rights of millions of Americans to vote for him

Washington: Donald Trump, who described himself as the ‘designated nominee’ for the presidency, on Monday asked the Supreme Court to protect the rights of millions of Americans who want to vote for him.

Days before the nation’s highest court heard a case to remove him from the Colorado ballot, Trump’s lawyers argued that his ouster would be ‘undemocratic’, similar to recent actions in Venezuela. His lawyers are appealing Colorado’s decision to disqualify him from running in that state because of the state’s anti-sedition clause. “There was no riot,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. President Trump did not ‘inspire’ anything, President Trump did not ‘engage’ in anything ‘revolutionary’.

In December, Colorado’s Supreme Court ruled that Trump is disqualified from running for president because of his role in trying to sway the 2020 election results and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Disqualifying Trump would be the same anti-democratic measure taken by Venezuela’s socialist dictatorship when the main opposition candidate in the presidential election was excluded from the ballot, his lawyers told the court.
