“Dominik Hašek does not speak for the Czechia”. The NHL has run out of patience with the goalie’s Twitter

Advertising on Russian crimes continues and is a spit in the face of Ukrainians. Former hockey goaltender Dominik Hašek strongly condemned the participation of Alexander Ovechkin’s son in the NHL All-Star Game on social media and in an interview with CNN Prima NEWS. According to him, NHL boss Gary Bettman should quit, but he said that Hašek “does not speak for the Czechia”.

Nine Russian hockey players took part in the NHL All-Star Game weekend event in Florida, and a well-known supporter of Vladimir Putin and longtime Washington Capitals power forward Alexander Ovechkin and his son also played an important role here.

Hašek, who is loudly calling on the NHL and other professional sports organizations to ban Russian athletes from representation, spoke out against the action of the most prestigious hockey competition on his Twitter: “The NHL has sunk to rock bottom! Having Ovechkin’s son perform on the ice at the NHL All-Star game is a spit in the face of the approximately 500 killed, thousands injured and tens of thousands of kidnapped Ukrainian children. The NHL and Gary Bettman must pay for this heinous act!” he said.

“It was clear to me that the publicity about the Russian war and the regime’s crimes would continue during the All-Star Game. Unfortunately, this happened to an even greater extent than I expected. I’m doing everything I can to make NHL boss Gary Bettman feel the pressure. And to be recalled. It’s not a matter of a week or two, it’s going to be a lot of work. However, I am convinced that the NHL is partly responsible for what is happening in Ukraine. He supports crimes, for which he has to pay dearly,” he subsequently said in an interview for CNN Prima NEWS.

The aforementioned top NHL boss Bettman responded to Hašek’s initiative on Sunday by saying: “I do not think that Mr. Hašek speaks for the Czech government or the Czech people. But of course he has the right to his opinion. However, I certainly do not agree with him.’

According to Hašek, this is his very first statement on what he is drawing attention to. “I sent him the first letter about a week after the start of the war. And another in December. No reaction, until now. So I’m glad he at least said something. We may not agree in opinion, but I am convinced that the NHL will have to pay for the way it treats Russian hockey players. He has billions of dollars to pay for his attitude. That’s my goal,” he continued.

He believes that his efforts will not be in vain: “It is important for me that the topic is talked about, that it reaches more and more people. I continue to believe in change. Probably nothing will happen this season, but I can already see certain signs. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing. And I feel that my tweets are getting more and more response. NHL management is feeling the pressure. Let’s be surprised,” added the legendary goalkeeper.
