Originally from the south of Charente-Maritime near Bordeaux and after great winemaking experiences in areas such as the Olivier Leflaive estate, Chave or the beautiful Mas Jullien estate, Géraldine Laval decided to put down her bags on the Terrasses du Larzac altitude terroirs in 2009 to its first vintage…

Planted in the heart of the Cirque de Labeil at about 450 meters above sea level, the Clos Maïa vineyards grow mainly on the limestone scree of the Larzac. A rainfall well above the regional average which, added to particularly draining soils, provides the vines with an ever-present but never excessive water supply. The altitude of the vineyards offers cooler temperatures than elsewhere in the Terrasses du Larzac, which is reflected in the wines. As proof of a rediscovered balance, the herbs grow naturally to create life in the heart of the vines. The cycles of the moons are respected and the vinification takes place without excesses using indigenous yeasts to express the terroirs.

Among the Languedoc PGIs, the Vin de Pays de l’Hérault is one of the best known denominations.

The Pays d’Hérault is a wine appellation whose wines are produced in the Languedoc wine region. Its terroir benefits from a Mediterranean climate and soils of shale, marl, limestone and molasses.

Region

The Languedoc-Roussillon vineyard is one of the largest in France with an area of ​​over 245,000 hectares of vineyards. It was created by the Greeks and Romans in the continuity of the Provençal one. The historic Languedoc-Roussillon vineyard has gone through all the vicissitudes of history, from Roman times to Algerian independence. Long producing wines for everyday consumption, we had forgotten that the region also had remarkable terroirs. These are now being recovered with high quality grape varieties and cultivation practices. We discover sumptuous wines produced by talented winemakers.

The vines benefit from a great diversity of soils: shale, sandstone, calcareous scree, sandy-clayey soil, marl, which explains the richness of the terroirs of this region and the diversity of the appellations offered, in red, in rosé, in white wines and sweet wines, without forgetting the sparkling wines.

In Languedoc-Roussillon, the emblematic red grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan. They are perfectly adapted to warm and sunny weather. White wines are mainly produced from Grenache blanc, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne.

The Languedoc is located in a Mediterranean climate zone, characterized by mild winters, hot, dry summers and low rainfall. The prevailing wind, the tramontana, favors the withering of the vines and prevents disease. This extraordinary climate is therefore ideal for the cultivation of vines.
