does the era of ‘quadruple A’ begin? Between Ubisoft and The Initiative

Over the last few years, the expression “triple A” has become more than common use in the gaming environment. Term used to indicate high-budget productions, the latter could however soon be replaced by a new one.

We refer specifically to the expression “YYYY“, which seems to be starting to assert itself with some frequency. Among the first teams to use it, we remember one of the latest entries in the Xbox Game Studios house. On the occasion of its presentation, in fact, The Initiative has called itself an AAAA gaming team. At the moment, the public has not yet had the opportunity to discover the identity of what the software house is working on, but the wording linked to a “quadruple A“is starting to spread.

In particular, it seems to be popular with home teams Ubisoft, with several developers using it on their own profiles LinkedIn. An interesting sighting, made by the Twitter user “East 222“, which brought it to the attention of the public through the tweets you find at the bottom. In particular, the term AAAA is used for:

  • Beyond Good and Evil 2: Technical Art Director Cyril Masquilliere, describes the space opera as a next-gen, AAAA and open-universe game;
  • Skull & Bones: the expression is used by Senior Producer Francois Logeais;
  • Ubisoft Berlin: reference is to an unannounced AAAA game, in production since September 2019;
  • Ubisoft Bordeaux: the team is working on a AAAA with currently unspecified identity;

While waiting to find out more about the scope and ambitions of these titles, we remind you that on Thursday evening the editorial team of Everyeye will follow the new Ubisoft Forward on Twitch.
