Autopia, a gas-powered attraction located within Disneyland’s Tomorrowland in California, is reportedly going green by going fully electric.

According to a Disney spokesperson, the beloved Disney theme park has decided to embrace “alternative fuel sources,” as the move towards sustainable energy gains traction in the industry.

“As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years,” revealed Jessica Good, a Disneyland Resort spokesperson.

A timeline for the electric conversion project has not been released at this time.

The classic Disneyland attraction, which opened in 1955, provides an opportunity for younger visitors to experience their first drive. Currently, the ride is themed with a Honda concept, introduced in the early 2000s, after being previously themed with Chevron.

The decision to transition Autopia to electric power follows the announcement of a massive expansion project at the southern California theme park. The “multi-billion-dollar DisneylandForward project” has been reviewed and approved by the Anaheim Planning Commission, and it aims to bring new rides, hotels, and entertainment options to Disneyland over the next four decades.

This ambitious plan may potentially introduce new themed lands, similar to the highly successful Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which debuted at Disneyland in 2019.

Fox News has reached out to Disney for further comment on the attractions’ switch to electric power.
