“Disney-owned Hotstar exits Indian Super League, Viacom 18 to take over broadcasting rights”

Mumbai: Disney Hotstar has left the association with the Indian Super League. All video clips related to ISL have been removed from Hotstar website and app. ISL will be telecasted by Viacom 18 in the upcoming season. Following this, Hotstar decided to remove the video. Since the tournament’s inception, the Disney-owned Star Network has had the telecast rights. The contract was for ten years. Hotstar retires on completion of 10 years Moreover, Star Sports has also incurred heavy losses. Last season there were reports of declining ratings. Viacom is under Reliance 18. Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) under Reliance is also involved in organizing the ISL. Therefore, Viacom will acquire the broadcasting rights.

Earlier, Viacom-18 had earlier announced that IPL 16th season will be streamed live on 4G. The live streaming of the match will be done through the mobile applications and websites of Woot and Jio Cinema. There was also a big fight between Star Sports and Jio TV when it came to IPL commentators. Star Sports and Jio Cinemas have introduced a huge line-up of commentators for IPL matches.
