Walt Disney and Warner Bros Discovery have announced their intention to launch a new streaming bundle in the US this summer, allowing customers to access Disney+, Hulu, and Max together in a consolidated package. This move is a response to the mounting competition faced by Disney and Warner Bros from streaming rivals like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Expanding Streaming Choices
The media giants are slated to offer both advert-supported and ad-free plans, although no pricing details have been divulged yet. Record-breaking subscription numbers are expected, with Warner Bros Discovery executive JB Perrette stating that the new offering will capture incremental subscribers and foster stronger retention.
Keeping Pace with Changing Audiences
As audiences increasingly shift away from traditional television consumption, streaming services must continually attract new subscribers. Disney and Warner Bros have already begun collaborating and bundling their streaming platforms to achieve this. The upcoming bundle follows their recent joint sports streaming platform announcement, which involves Walt Disney’s ESPN, Fox Corp, and Warner Bros Discovery.
Expansive Portfolio and Global Growth
Together, these media powerhouses possess an extensive assortment of sports rights portfolios, including coverage of major events such as the FIFA World Cup, Formula 1, NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball.
In their quarterly financial report, Disney revealed that Disney+ gained more than six million subscribers globally between January and March, accounting for all regions except India. The streaming service now boasts a total of over 117 million subscribers. The substantial growth in subscribers is crucial for Disney’s future success in this competitive streaming landscape.
