Its fame goes beyond our borders. It is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the heart of Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), it is the Stanislas place. A majestic place, emblematic for the nancéiens. “It is the meeting point for all Nancy residents!“, launches a passer-by. An open-air masterpiece, this architectural jewel holds no secrets for Marine Marquaite, adopted Nancy and tourist guide:”The square was built in the middle of the 13th century, it presents a classical style architecture. You had the opera house, the town hall, mansions, we are going to have this heart of the city erected.“
A place imagined and designed by Stanislas Leszczyński, former King of Poland and last Duke of Lorraine. He wanted to pay homage to his son-in-law, Louis XV, with these monumental fountains and these gates covered with gold leaf at each end. Stanislas wanted to leave a trace of his passage. Behind the statue that represents him, the town hall, one of the most sumptuous buildings in Nancy. Inside, on the first floor, he himself is depicted on a medallion and painted on the ceiling, seated on a chariot.
