The district of Offenbach is very popular with guests from Germany and abroad. Due to its favorable location in the heart of the economically strong FrankfurtRheinMain metropolitan region, the district is a popular destination for visitors. “Fortunately, the number of overnight stays is increasing again,” says District Administrator Oliver Quilling. “However, we are still a long way from the level before the pandemic, when we were able to announce record numbers.”
In the first half of 2023, a good 430,000 overnight stays were recorded in around 100 accommodation establishments in the cities and communities in the Offenbach district. Compared to the previous year, this is more than double, 203,000 overnight stays were recorded in the first half of 2022. However, these numbers are still a long way from those of 2019 – before the corona pandemic. Around 935,000 overnight stays were counted in more than 110 companies in the first half of 2019.
Industry is struggling to survive
Restrictions due to the Corona rules, rising costs for energy and food and often there is a lack of staff – the industry is struggling to survive. From 2024, the VAT rate is to increase from the current seven to 19 percent. Many restaurateurs see this as a threat to their existence. “Leaving VAT permanently at seven percent is an important signal to hotels and restaurants and at the same time in the interest of the citizens,” supports district administrator Oliver Quilling the demand of the Hotel and Gastronomy Association Hessen eV (DEHOGA). “Because the increased prices are already causing people to forego some short vacations and visits to restaurants.”
Even if the district of Offenbach is not a classic holiday destination, the hospitality industry is an important branch of the economy. Tourism in the district of Offenbach consists to a very large extent of business trips, conferences and congresses. The number of employees rose from 4,877 in 2013 to 5,390 in 2020. The hotels in the economically strong district of Offenbach are booked particularly heavily by business travellers. “The quality and service of the hotels are therefore also important parameters for our business location, which we are further expanding together with the 13 municipalities, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the district craftsmen’s association as part of the location plus initiative.”

In addition to addresses, contact details and links to the individual establishments, the heart of the site is a search mask that can be used to differentiate between 60 features.
