Discourse on Prohibition of Hajj More Than Once: Coordinating PMK Minister Reveals Reason

Jakarta

Coordinating PMK Minister Muhadjir Effendy revealed the reason behind discourse prohibition of Hajj more than once. Muhadjir said the discourse was conveyed because the waiting period for the pilgrimage in Indonesia was quite long.

“There are a lot of people who are interested in hajj in Indonesia. If there is no policy prohibiting those who have gone on haj many times, then the chance for others who haven’t yet gone to go on pilgrimage is small,” said Muhadjir at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK office, Jakarta, Sunday (27/8/2023).

“Then the waiting period is also long, the longer those who go to Hajj are, the older they are, the older they are, and that is risky,” he added.

Apart from that, said Muhadjir, the scholars agreed that Hajj is obligatory once in a lifetime. So the priority for going to Hajj will be given to people who have not yet departed.

“So the scholars agree that the Hajj is an obligation only once in a lifetime. Then for the next person, it is the people who have not yet done the Hajj who are more entitled to perform the Hajj than those who have already performed the Hajj,” he said.

Discourse on the Prohibition of Hajj More Than Once

On the previous occasion, Muhadjir Effendy said that Indonesia needed to carry out a transformation in organizing the Hajj so that it could maintain the health of the congregation during worship until they returned to their respective homes. Muhadjir also opened a discourse forbidding people from going to Hajj more than once.

According to Muhadjir, this discourse made it possible to cut the length of the haj departure queue. He considers the obligation of Hajj for those who can only afford it once. Therefore, the next opportunity must be given to people who have not yet performed the pilgrimage.

“This discourse needs to be discussed because the aging pilgrims have health implications,” said Muhadjir, quoted from a press release on the Kemenko PMK website, Friday (25/8/2023).

This discourse was conveyed by Muhadjir when he was the keynote speaker at the National Seminar on Hajj Health which was held by the Deputy for Health Quality Improvement and Population Development Coordinating Ministry for Coordinating PMK, on Thursday (24/8).
