Discord Server Leaks Top Confidential US Documents on Ukraine War

Jakarta

Instead of being used for discussions about games, sophistication Discord even used for evil things. It is known that a document containing details of the United States strategy regarding its support for Ukraine against Russia has been leaked.

The secret files have already spread online, and can be found on social media such as Twitter and including Telegram. However, the initial source did not directly visit the two platforms.

This document was first seen at Discord. Precisely on the server Minecraftwhich gathers connoisseurs of the Sandbox game from various regions, as reported by detikINET from IGN.

Usually in this application, players will discuss gameplay, tips, bugs, or other things related to the game. However, of the many members who joined the server, one user leaked ten documents marked ‘Top Confidential’.

It was alleged that the contents contained sensitive information about the war Ukraine ongoing. In addition, it is also about how NATO will help Ukraine.

A fact-checking group, Beliingcat, reported that before the important documents were distributed, there were some light conversations that took place. Until finally a user accidentally attached a highly confidential file belonging to the United States.

Bellingcat also found that there are currently two versions of the document leaked online. The original documents estimate that Ukraine’s losses were lower than Russia’s during the war.

Meanwhile, other documents appear to have been edited, depicting Ukrainian losses as higher. This information was revealed directly by Aric Toler, a Bellingcat researcher at Twitter.

His statement departed from one of the other account users, who stated that the Pentagon was trying to get Twitter to remove posts containing classified documents about the war in Indonesia Ukraine. But according to Toler this does not make sense.

“Censorship is pretty ridiculous, because it’s everywhere now,” said Toler.

This incident deserves more attention, regarding the need to improve security. This aims to prevent unauthorized leakage of confidential documents in the future.
