DIRECTV Sports ™ | The Mets won a historic meeting for deGrom

The right-hander struck out nine in a row and was just one behind the all-time record set by the legendary Tom Seaver.

Jacob deGrom entered a select group of pitchers with nine consecutive strikeouts in a game of MLB and it was only one of the historical record of Tom Seaver, to contribute to the victory of New York Mets by 4-3 in front of Colorado Rockies.

The Mets right-hander struck out nine in a row Saturday against the Rockies, falling one short of tying the record set by Mets legend Tom Seaver, who had 10 in a row in 1970.

DeGrom’s record began in the second inning with Josh Fuentes and ended in the fifth, marking a 3-1 partial lead for the Rockies. Finally the Mets managed the comeback to take the victory. In total, he made 14 outs in the game against the Rockies and repeated the same amount of the previous game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Now the right-hander has matched the line of Max Scherzer, Aaron Harang, Ricky Nolasco, Jake Peavy and Mickey Welch, all with nine, while Seaver remains unbeatable after 10 straight strikeouts in 1970, also with the Mets and against the San Diego Padres.
