Director of the Insurance hospital in San Cristóbal died of COVID-19

This saturday Dr. Ramón Chávez passed away, director of the hospital Social Security of San Cristóbal Sponsorship Peñuela Ruiz, who since last July 17 announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The director in charge of the health center confirmed the news on the afternoon of August 29. Ramón Chávesz, an intensivist doctor, began to have symptoms since July 17, but his diagnosis was related to pneumonia until the result of the PCR test came back positive.

Family members reported on July 30 that he had complications and was on mechanical ventilation in the ICU of the health center he ran.

Dr. Chávez, along with one of his sons, who also has the disease, served isolation at home for a few days, but he was presenting respiratory distress and constant fatigue, which forced him to go to the San Cristóbal Social Security hospital.

As he did not improve, he had to be intubated, according to a relative told a regional media.

It was known that the week of August 10, Chávez had a slight improvement, but apparently basic diseases complicated his state of health. Even this Friday blood was being requested for the doctor.

Ramón Chávez is the second doctor to die in Táchira from COVID-19. The first was Eleazar Rojas Espinoza, who died on Thursday at the Central Hospital of San Cristóbal.
