director General Tax Ministry of Finance (Ministry of Finance) Suryo Utomo visited the General Chair PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) this Thursday (2/3). His visit was carried out in the midst of calls for former PBNU chairman Said Aqil Siroj to boycott paying taxes.

The meeting took place from 08.30 WIB to 10.00 WIB. Initially, the meeting location was scheduled at the PBNU office. However, the meeting moved to Gus Yahya’s private house because he was not feeling well.

PBNU administrator Jusuf Hamka who was present that morning said that the case of tax official Rafael Alun Trisambodo was a private matter, so he was not allowed to attack the institution.

“Gus Yahya emphasized that PBNU has never made a call to boycott paying taxes, because NU has always been in line with the government,” Jusuf Hamka was quoted as saying detikFinanceThursday (2/3)

According to him, Gus Yahya also hopes that the legal process against the son of a former tax official will run objectively and transparently.

Former PBNU General Chairperson Said Aqil Siroj urged people not to pay taxes because there were allegations of tax fund misappropriation by former tax official, Rafael Alun Trisambodo. Rafael’s son, Mario Dandy Satriyo, was previously involved in violence against David Latumahina.

According to Jusuf Hamka, what was conveyed by Kiai Said Aqil was not wise, especially in his capacity as administrator of the DKI Jakarta Amil Zakat, Infaq and Sodaqoh Agency (BAZIS).

He then made an analogy, if there is a son of BAZIS management who misuses zakat funds, is it appropriate to call on all Muslims not to pay zakat.

“As scholars who we respect together, it’s best not to be provocative. As a businessman, I testify that a lot has changed in our world of taxation. In 2016 I reported a tax person who was naughty, he was immediately fired,” he said.

He, who is known as a toll road entrepreneur, added that the benefits of this tax have been clearly felt to finance development.

Setback If no one wants to pay taxes,” he added.
