Dinamo Zagreb coach Bjelica fired in midst of corona crisis

While there has been no football for weeks because of the corona crisis, Dinamo Zagreb decided on Friday to fire coach Nenad Bjelica. The Croatian club takes the lead in the national league, which was stopped in early March.

“We broke up with mutual respect,” Bjelica told Croatian media. “It took a while, because the details about the completion of the contract had to be coordinated. Yet it has been two good years here.”

The club released a brief statement that said nothing about the reason for the dismissal. Previously, the contracts of the rest of the technical staff had already been terminated.

Success coach

The 48-year-old coach joined Dinamo Zagreb in May 2018. Under his leadership, the club won the Dutch championship twice and won the national cup once. Bjelica was well on its way to capture the league title for the third time. After 26 rounds, the club from Zagreb had an 18-point lead over number two NK Rijeka.
